About Rough Out

Celebrating authentic ranch skills, rodeo tradition, and the people who keep the Western way of life alive.

About Us

Our Roots

Rough Out was founded in 2017 with a mission to celebrate the grit and teamwork of real ranch hands. What started as a small idea has grown into a movement — bringing communities together through authentic ranch rodeos, youth-focused events, and signature competitions like the Top Hands Tour and the Battle of the Barns.

Through the years, we’ve grown from mule tape to ranch rodeos — always taking pride in bringing “the ranch” back to the ranch rodeo. If you’re looking for a laid-back weekend rooted in real Western tradition, we encourage you to come be a part of our rodeos.

How It All Started

The idea behind Rough Out dates back to September 2014. One evening during downtime at work, a friend cut the tarp from his brother’s trailer and handed over the extra rope. Out of that came the very first braided halter — a 6-braid halter that is still being used today.

From that one halter, Rough Out has grown into so much more. Our products have expanded from halters to mule whips and beyond, and our events have evolved into a full rodeo experience that now attracts barns, schools, and families from across the region.

Our Purpose:

  • Highlight the authentic skills of real ranch hands.

  • Create events that value teamwork as much as individual grit.

  • Build pride, sportsmanship, and leadership in youth.

  • Strengthen the bonds between families, schools, and rodeo fans.

Our Events:
Rough Out is home to two unique rodeo experiences:

  • The Top Hands Tour, showcasing authentic ranching skills and Western pride.

  • The Battle of the Barns, our signature November team showdown.

Today and Tomorrow

At Rough Out, rodeo is about more than competition — it’s about connection, tradition, and community. Whether you’re a competitor, a fan, or a sponsor, we invite you to be part of the Rough Out story.
